Nutrition Basics That Actually Work

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be confusing. You don’t need to cut out all your favorite foods or follow a strict meal plan to see results. At CrossFit CTRL in Fairmont, we believe in keeping it simple and doable—because if it’s not realistic, it won’t stick.

We work with real people. Busy people. Parents, teachers, shift workers, retirees. And the truth is, most of us just want to feel better. Less tired. Less bloated. More in control of our choices. 💪

So let’s break it down in a way that makes sense—no fads, no guilt, no weird rules.

Step One: Focus on Protein 🍗

Protein helps your body build and repair muscle, keeps you full longer, and helps you recover from workouts. Most people don’t eat enough of it.

Simple ways to get more protein:

  • Eggs for breakfast 🥚
  • Chicken, turkey, or lean beef at lunch and dinner
  • Fairlife shakes or Greek yogurt for snacks
  • 1st Phorm bars on the go

Try to have a palm-sized serving of protein with each meal. You’ll feel the difference within a few days—more energy and less snacking.

Step Two: Add Color to Your Plate 🥦🍓

If your meals are all beige (think bread, pasta, cereal), you’re missing out on vitamins, fiber, and hydration. Add some color with:

  • Spinach or bell peppers in your eggs
  • A handful of berries with breakfast
  • Carrots or cucumbers with lunch
  • Roasted veggies at dinner

You don’t have to go full “salad life”—just add one fruit or veggie to each meal and build from there.

Step Three: Don’t Overcomplicate It

You don’t need to eat perfectly. You just need to eat with purpose.

Here’s a simple formula we use at our gym near downtown Fairmont:
Protein + Veggie + Carb + Fat = A balanced meal

Example:
Grilled chicken + broccoli + rice + olive oil or avocado
That’s it. That’s the magic.

Drink your water. Move your body. Eat mostly real food. And give yourself some grace. 🧠

What About Treats?

You’re allowed to enjoy food. We do! 🍕

The key is to plan your meals most of the time so that when you do have a treat, it doesn’t throw everything off.

Think 80/20:

  • 80% of your meals are on track
  • 20% are flexible for life events, cravings, or date night

You don’t have to quit living to feel better. You just need to make a few better choices most of the time.
